CALIFORNIA FARM YARN
NOW AVAILABLE!
California Farm Yarns debuted at SoCal Fiber Fair in November, and is now exclusively available through our retail partner Coachella Valley Yarn. The collection includes yummy Merino, Merino-Rambouillet blends, Merino-Alpaca blends, Shetland, Suri and Huayaca Alpaca, roving, pellets, and more, all sourced from ranchers in the Southern California bioregion.
CA Farm Yarn supports local ranchers and fiber producers by opening pathways for economic resilience and exchange. Local fiber production also supports biodiversity, soil health, and – in some cases – can help with fire mitigation. Some of So Cal’s fiber flocks do double duty as grazers-for-hire, munching through wildfire-prone landscape. Cuyama Lamb in the Santa Barbara area and Shepherdess Land & Livestock in Ojai are terrific examples of sheep operations with a focus on wildfire mitigation.
As some of you know, in September 2024 California Governor Gavin Newsom signed Senate Bill 675 (SB 675) into law, aimed at addressing the state’s ongoing wildfire crisis. The bill establishes a local assistance grant program to promote the use of prescribed grazing as a tool for wildfire prevention and forest health.
Regenerative agriculture, wildfire mitigation, and local ecological and economic health are all critical for our collective well-being. These yarns are all sourced locally and milled in small quantity; when they’re gone, they’re gone!
Thank you for supporting your local farmer-rancher, and your local Fibershed!
