Producer Program

The Southern California Fibershed was accepted into the Affiliate Program on July 1, 2019.

We are eager to build our So Cal Fibershed, encompassing the counties of San Luis Obispo south of SLO, Kern, Santa Barbara, Ventura, Los Angeles, Orange, San Diego, and Imperial.

Note: San Bernardino and Riverside counties are in the Inland Empire Fibershed.

We’ve borrowed our producer criteria and application from the parent Fibershed, namely: The Fibershed Producer Program is a membership-based network of farmers, ranchers, designers, sewers, weavers, knitters, felters, spinners, mill owners and natural dyers living and working within the Southern region of California.

SO CAL FIBERSHED PRODUCERS FOLLOW THESE GUIDELINES:

  • All fiber is farmed/sourced within Southern CA, from south of San Luis Obispo to the Mexican border

  • All botanic dye is farmed/sourced within Southern CA, from south of San Luis Obispo to the Mexican border

  • All labor is sourced within Southern CA, from south of San Luis Obispo to the Mexican border

Exceptions:

  • Until the region has its own cotton and fine gauge wool milling facility, So Cal Fibershed verifies goods from farmers that have had to send their raw material out of the area for milling.

  • Sewing thread and most notions are also not yet manufactured in our region, So Cal Fibershed verifies goods from artisans whose thread and notions are from out of the area.

  • Fibershed has a Certified Product Guidelines: Certified Product Guidelines — June, 2019 that gives a benchmark of what we’re targeting. We’ll update our guidelines as our fibershed region evolves.

IF YOU ARE A FIBERSHED FARMER OR ARTISAN IN THE SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA FIBERSHED AND WOULD LIKE PEOPLE TO KNOW THAT YOUR WORK SUPPORTS REGIONAL AGRICULTURE, A LOCAL AND FAIR ECONOMY, AND ECOLOGICAL BALANCE, PLEASE CONSIDER JOINING THE FIBERSHED PRODUCER PROGRAM.
